---In my head ...I dream.---

Of course, it is a dream that I work to someday craft, through hot tears and sweaty palms, copious amounts of post-it notes and scribbled on napkins, clunky typewriters and heated laptops, sleepless nights and countless sketches into the firm and heavy reality of a book. For four years now I have been hard at work, dreaming up plot and characters and retching up beautiful chunks of story. My aspiration is to make my dream into a reality.

Every November I partake in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where I join thousands of writers in a race to write 50,000 words in 30 days. I first joined in November 2006 and I've finished each year with more than 50,000 words under my belt. Instead of writing separate stories for each NaNoWriMo, I've been working on just one, the story of Ayuhan Ethereal. I plan to continue writing his story until I finish it and, as of NaNoWriMo 2008, I've finally breached the halfway point of his story.
During the other months of the year, I walk around with a printed copy of my novel, editing with a chainsaw, revising with an axe, and refining with a scalpel. And within the decade, there just might be a shelf with my name on it in bookstores nationwide.

So my dream is in the Frankenstein process of becoming a reality.

Of course, it isn't so much of a stab at fame and fortune (although if they did happen to come along it would be an unexpected ((and very much appreciated)) accident), but rather...Well...Not a goal, not an item on the bucket list, and not even a necessity, but rather all those things at once. It is a thing that I have to do. Like all carbon-based lifeforms must breathe, I, as a storyteller, must write. I must tell stories. There isn't a question about it, no doubts. Just resolute understanding, an internal calling, that this is what I must do. There are these people inside me, sharing the cataloged spaces of my sanity, and more of them keep arriving every day, loudly announcing their names and heaving baggage and suitcases of their story, relations, and problems into my arms. And I reply with, "Yes, please come in, let's have a cup of tea and how about you tell me all about yourself. Cream or sugar?"

It can't end there, though. These people and their baggage of tales cannot (and will not) stay. They have to be moved into their own world, and I, like a medium, will channel them from place to place. True, the process of writing can echo the toil and effort put into scaling Mt. Everest, but it work is of no importance. It is getting the story out that matters, bringing the breath of life to characters and spinning the fabric of their worlds so that others may know them. Every mile from the village where the characters first meet and onward to the base camps of plot, fighting through fatigue and snow drifts, choking and gasping through asphyxiation, every reeling, tottering step through storms and walls of wind, the writer climbs on, urging the characters onward, upward, onto the precipices of the Col, over the thin ridges, with only the thin rope of story to cling to, until finally, cold and sunburned, they reach the pinnacle...

And damn. It is breathtaking, the view from the top. It feels like the horizon has tried to stretch your heart, pulling the beating muscle out of your body to every distant line. It only lasts for a few minutes though, before it is time, once again, to follow the rope of story, back down the mountain, back down from the climax, into the end. Through it all, the writer was there, guiding the characters through the plot and story.

That is the role of a writer. And it is something that cannot be denied.

So (after that long analogy), I stand, humbled and smiling, at the work that I have done so far. Over 170,000 words in my Microsoft Document, a printed actual book form of my process (cover and all), and a firm determination to see my dream through into a reality.

...And, lawl, I promised myself that I wouldn't write a novel...

Best of luck to every "I Dream" contest entrant! 8D

I would have been lost, flailing around in Photoshop like an idiot, without you. <3
And I also want to thank:
:iconmegamoth: for giving me advice and refining tips. The end product looks so much better! XD
And :iconlaffairz: for being there to bounce ideas off of and generally helping me while I wailed and flailed at her over the AIM.
And :iconsavvypanda: for giving me advice and letting me glance at her legs and hands for help with Ayuhan. 8'D

And thanks to my boys, Ayuhan, Eugene, and Caratacus for obvious reasons.

Holy crap, an amazing piece of artwork, and an amazing monologue to follow (and i really mean that!). I really do need to sit down and read your book at some point don't I? I'd be more than willing to pay for a copy, if you have any!

Furthermore, i wish you the all best on your authorial dreams. i know what it's like to be motivated to do something that seems so colossal, so intimidating; it takes a lot of perseverance and heart to be able to take on a project like that. I can't wait until, one day, you can finally get your work published, and it's released in the world in all of its fantasy goodness. And, if your devotion now is anything to go by, you'll be a famous author some day, and all of your friends will be bragging about how they knew you way back before you wrote this book!

I'd say "Good luck!" but i don't think you need it! XD
:iconyositsune:
whoops, i hit the "request print" button... what does that do!? o.0;
:iconlaffairz:
You always have a way with words, don't you? I loved the prompt you wrote and the picture with equal admiration. I have to say the warm colors on your contest entry make it really inviting and a very comfortable picture to look at!

I BELIEVE IN YOU D8<!!!

Beautifullll! ;o; I love the idea behind this piece so much!! It's awesome that you put yourself into this piece to show you actually making your dream come true. You always draw such adorable expressions on your characters. I love how you captured all of the personalities of your characters too. Poor Caratacus...Always has to calm Ayuhan down~ XDD Such an inspiring description that you wrote too~ I wish you the best!! I can tell how much work you've put into this story just by reading the small excerpts that you kindly give to me to read! ;o; It's so wonderful and I can't wait til you make it into an novel! <3 You can do it!!! We are all cheering for you!

Wow. That monologue. I wish I could put together something that serious about my head. I envy your skills. And your uncanny ability to both write AND draw. Badass.

Dude, I'm pretty sure you can. You are a writer, are you not? 8D If you sit down and try I'm sure you can do something just like that. >w<
Thank you very much. QwQ They are abilities I have worked hard at and I plan to continue making them better for as long as I live!

Wow. This is a beautiful piece of art. I love eveything, the colours, the characters. You are very talented...I'm jealous. lol >w<

Good luck with your novel! I'm sure all of your work will pay off. :D When it gets published, which with your determination, I'm sure it will, I will make sure to go buy it and read it.

I'm planning on dparticipating in NaNoWriMo as well. I heard about it in April and thought, "Wow, that's really cool." So, I'm giving it a try. I've been working on a novel for a year or so with no progress, so I figure this might help me muster up the motivation I need.

That was a pretty spiffy analogy by the way. :iconiloveitmoreplz:

Thank you so much! Q___Q I worked really hard on it for quite some time. XD I'm so slow. BUT YES, thank you so much. Those are very kind words.

And thank you again! I'm determined to make my novel published. >8[ <- Here's my determined face.
Their story is one that needs to be told. So when I do get it published and sent out to stores or something, I will make an announcement here on DA. OwO

DUDE, DO IT. NANOWRIMO is the best thing that has happened to me. Honestly, without it, I wouldn't have gotten as much written today as I have. It's really amazing, an energy taking, breath stealing event that connects you to your writing like a mother is connected with an umbilical chord to her child. There's no time to worry about plot holes or grammar or anything, just moving the story along. It's honestly the highlight of my year. I hope you do it and have a wonderful November! And when you sign up onto the sight we can become friends and watch each other's writing process. 8D My name there is also Ethereel.

LAWL THANKS. I think I got carried away. >___> But I had to make that connection. It fit just perfectly!
